Learn SEO For Beginners

How do you learn SEO that is easy, correct and with immediate results? Maybe this is the question often asked by people who are just learning SEO.

There is nothing wrong with that question. Very reasonable, because we used to think like that when we first learned SEO.

I want it, once I finish writing the article, it will be indexed immediately and get a lot of traffic from search engines.

If there is a lot of traffic, the revenue from advertising is also a lot. Moreover, at that time it was paid in dollars .

It’s just that based on our experience for more than 5 years in the world of SEO, it turns out that learning SEO is not that simple. There are many things we need to pay attention to if we want to be safe and to last a long time .

There are people who run SEO in ways that are unusual and tend to be spammy. They do a lot of blackhat SEO tricks such as keyword stuffing, backlink cattle, clickbait and so on. Where these methods are not recommended by search engines (in this case Google).

In terms of results, there are quite a lot of people who managed to occupy the top ranking in search results very quickly. However, every time there is an algorithm update from Google, they end up in chaos. The organic traffic they get drops. Some even don’t appear on the search results page (read: deindex).

Surely we don’t want to be like that right? Already tired of learning SEO, in the end I get a penalty from Google just because it defeats Google’s rules about SEO.

Therefore on this page we want to share with you about how to learn good, safe and correct SEO, according to the rules set by Google.

So that when you run SEO in this way, the results you get can last a long time without having to worry about updating Google’s algorithm.

Update: For information, at the beginning of August 2020, Google is updating its algorithm again. Many websites have collapsed, including the KIRIM.EMAIL website. But the traffic that falls is not as bad as other websites that do SEO in strange ways. But now at the end of August 2020 the traffic is back to normal without the need to do anything. Just wait and see what happens. Because we play it safe the way we share in this article, so there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Understand How Search Engines Work

Before we learn SEO any further, the first thing we must understand is how search engines work.

In principle, the way the search engine works includes 3 things, which include:

  1. Crawling
  2. Indexing
  3. Ranking

Crawling

Crawling is a crawling process performed by bots on a website.

The goal is that search engines can find out what content is on the website. In some cases, these bots crawl not only content, but files as well.

So it is not surprising that there are many file types such as PDF, XLS and so on that appear on the search results page.

So if your website wants to appear on the first page and be in the top ranking of search results, then the first step you have to do is allow bots to crawl your website .

The trick is to upload a file called robots.txt at the root of your website.

While the contents of this file for example are as follows:

user-agent:googlebot
allow:*
disallow:/administrator

To learn more about how this bot writing format you can learn here.

What needs to be considered in this crawling process is that not all parts of our website provide access rights to bots. We give access only to certain parts of a public nature. Do not let the files that should be private can be accessed by bots.

If this happens then it means opening the security gaps of your website as wide as possible. So that it will be very vulnerable to theft of access rights.

Indexing

After the crawling process, the next way search engines work is indexing.

This indexing process means displaying your website pages on search results pages. No matter what position, which is important when someone is looking for a certain keyword, how many pages of your website are on the list recommended by search engines.

To find out whether your website is indexed or not is easy enough. Namely by simply typing text in the following format in a search engine (Google):

site:url-halaman-konten-anda

An example is as shown below:

If what appears as in the image above, then it means that your website or content page has been indexed.

However, if what appears as in the image below, then your website or content page has not been indexed.

To do indexing, you can follow the tutorial in the article entitled How to Get Google Indexed Website Articles Quickly Without Backlinks .

Ranking

After the search engines do indexing, the next way of working is to rank all websites that have been indexed.

In essence, which website is most relevant to what keywords are typed by the searcher will occupy the very top position on the very front page.

However, when all indexed websites are relevant, what search engines consider in ranking is their popularity.

Which one is more popular, it will be at the very top.

The popularity of a website here can mean many things, such as:

  • how many shares on social media
  • how many backlinks that lead to that page
  • how the user experience and bounce rate on the website
  • and so forth.

There are many factors that search engines consider in doing this ranking. So don’t let our focus only on backlinks.

Backlinks can indeed increase the popularity of a website, it’s just not the main thing. Carelessly providing backlinks can have a bad impact on you. Even those who play PBN can be penalized by Google so that their website is deindexed.

Therefore, if you don’t understand and master SEO fundamentally, it would be best to avoid playing backlinks or PBNs first. It’s better if you run SEO in a basic way and according to Google’s recommendations.

Those are 3 ways a search engine works that you need to understand first. The 3 things that we convey above are closely related to how to learn SEO which we will explain in the following section.

Learning SEO Is Easier With A Framework

To make it easier for you to learn SEO, we will explain it with a framework. This framework is a framework.

Maybe you had lessons in writing or writing essays at school. When making it we need an outline such as an opening, a fill and a closing. After this framework has been created, it remains only to develop it into a long and full article.

With this framework it will make our essays not widened everywhere, directed, neat and also of quality. And what is certain is that with this framework we can write more easily.

Likewise with running SEO. We need a framework so that what we do is neat and focused. So that when your optimization doesn’t show any results, you can easily track and evaluate (read: SEO audits).

This SEO framework is also widely used by many companies. We at KIRIM.EMAIL also use a framework to carry out an SEO strategy.

And most importantly, this SEO framework can be applied to any website. No limits. Your website based on WordPress, Blogspot, Shopify, Wix or make it with your own code, all can apply this SEO framework.

The SEO framework that you can use to learn SEO consists of 3 main parts, which include:

  • Site Health
  • Content Expert
  • Outreach Campaign

Let’s discuss them one by one.

Site Health

In learning SEO, the first thing to learn is about the health of your website.

Maybe you are wondering, why in learning SEO we also need to study the health of a website?

The reason is simple, because the health of the website affects the crawling process of search engines.

If the website is healthy, the crawling process will be more frequent. Vice versa, bots will rarely crawl unhealthy websites.

If the bot crawls quite often, every time there is new content on your website, the indexing process will also be faster. Sometimes it only takes a few seconds to get indexed. So it doesn’t take long to months just waiting for the indexing process.

Whether a website is healthy or not can be seen from 3 factors, which include:

  • Site structure
  • Onpage Signal
  • Structure Data.

Let’s discuss them one by one.

Site Structure

A website is said to be healthy if the structure is good. What is meant by structure here is the arrangement of each page on a website. Another word for this website structure is the website architecture or it could be called the website hierarchy.

To make it easier to understand the structure of the website, please pay attention to the following picture.

In the picture above, if we look at the arrangement of a well structured blogpost. For example, each blogpost is not directly related to other blogposts, but must first relate to the category.

Maybe those of you who are just learning SEO are wondering why we make a good website structure? There are at least 3 reasons why we should do it.

The 3 reasons include:

  • Help search engines understand what your website is about
  • Avoid duplication and competition with your own content
  • Anticipate changes in your website content.

After knowing how important website structure is, maybe you are wondering how to make a good website structure?

To create a good website structure, please follow the steps below:

  1. Create a homepage page
  2. Create an About, Contact, Privacy Policy page and if necessary create a Terms and Conditions page
  3. Create at least 1 category and a maximum of 10
  4. From each category create at least 1 sub-category and a maximum of 4
  5. From each sub-category, create a blog post or article at least 1 and the maximum is no limit

If you have created a website structure like the one above, then do the conversion in the form of a sitemap. Usually the final result is a file in xml format.

Then upload your sitemap file to Google Search Console. Make sure your sitemap file is valid and there are no errors so that bots from Google will immediately crawl or crawl your website.

In this site structure what we need to pay attention to is the relationship between pages or the popular term is internal links. By implementing internal links on our website, it will increase the weight of a page and make it easier for Google bots to crawl the page.

To make it easier to understand this internal link, please pay close attention to the following illustration.

Suppose you have 10 pages on your website. Of the 10 pages, all of them are indexed and only 3 pages are able to bring a lot of traffic. Then you want to create a new page, say the name of the page page X. This page X will bring additional traffic for your website.

Then after you publish page X you get the URL. You put the URL on the 3 pages that bring you the most traffic. Thus page X will get the strength of these 3 pages. So that the results will add weight to page X compared to other pages and will be easier to be in the top ranking.

Onpage Signal

After the site structure and sitemap, a website is said to be healthy if there is an onpage signal on the website.

There are many types of onpage signals, including:

  • Use an easy-to-read url
  • there is a meta title and a meta description
  • using headings 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the content section.
  • there is a breadcrumb
  • and so forth.

To find out whether your website has an onpage signal or not, you can check it on sites such as:

  • https://websiteseochecker.com/
  • and so forth.

By checking onpage signals on the sites above, you can find out what signals you need to improve so that your website gets healthier.

Data Structure

The next indicator a website is said to be healthy is if the website has a data structure. More precisely, the data structure is in accordance with the rules at Schema.org.

For more details about this data structure, you can learn about it here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/guides/intro-structured-data.

Those are 3 things that are the basic foundation for the health of a website. Actually there is one more thing related to User Experience (UX) where one of the most important points is about site speed. But we will discuss this in more detail at a later time.

Content Expert

The second framework in learning SEO is a content expert. As the name implies, in this section we will discuss more about content.

In this section, there are at least 3 parts that are included in the expert content, including:

  • Keyword Research
  • Content Creator
  • Content Optimization

Let’s discuss them one by one.

Keyword research

Keyword research when translated means keyword research. The point is that we did a series of research to find the keywords that have the most potential to bring a lot of traffic to our website.

To do keyword research, we need a tool or tools. Tools that you can use include:

  • Google suggestion
  • Ubersuggest
  • Google Keyword Planner
  • Ahrefs
  • MOZ
  • SEMrush
  • Keywordshitter
  • and so forth.

Tools are important, but what’s most important in keyword research is your understanding of search intents.

There are many definitions of search intent, but our definition is the motive behind a search for a keyword.

For example like this, you type the word learn SEO on Google. From this keyword, there are at least several motives behind this search, including:

  • looking for SEO tutorials or guides
  • looking for a SEO course
  • find out what proper SEO is like
  • and so forth.

Of these 3 motives, then choose which one is the most sought after. Therefore you need tools to be able to compare the 3 search intents above.

In doing research and choosing keywords, we have rules. The goal is to be able to bring in a lot of traffic without the hassle. There are 3 keys, including:

  • Monthly search volume . Choose keywords with a large monthly search volume. Minimum size is 1000 per month. If none of them reach 1000 searches per month, then choose the most. To find out the numbers, use a tool like Ubersuggest.
  • Number of competition . Choose keywords with a small amount of competition. Usually we choose keywords with less than 500,000 competition. To find out, how to type in Google your keyword and underneath it will appear search results. This figure shows the amount of competition.
  • Competitor conditions . Even if the 2 keys above are fulfilled, usually we have one more key to choose a keyword. The key to this is the condition of the competitors as seen from their Alexa score. If the Alexanya score is above 1 million, then please take and use these keywords. If the competitor’s Alexa rate is under 1 million, then please look for other keywords.

For this keyword research, we have made a more detailed guide. You can learn how to do step-by-step keyword research by reading the article entitled: Case Studies How To Find And Determine The Most Searched Keywords On Google For Blogs And Online Stores and Niche Market Validation .

Content Creator

After you have done your keyword research and got what keywords you are targeting, the next thing you need to do is create content based on keywords.

Create article content aimed at humans, not robots. Therefore, making articles that are easy to read, weighty, comprehensive and also quality is mandatory in SEO.

Forget about keyword density. keyword stuffing especially spinning content. Focus on quality and useful content.

Currently Google is different from 5 years ago, so the strategy for creating content is also different.

If you are unable to create quality content, there is nothing wrong with using content writing services. Currently there are many services like this. You just have to ask them for articles that match the keywords that you targeted previously.

Content Optimization

After you create content and publish it, the next stage in learning SEO is to do content optimization or content optimization.

The things included in this content optimization include:

  • check sentence structure and spelling
  • use the alt attribute on the included image
  • Provide internal links to content that is within a category
  • Provide external links to websites that are relevant to the content
  • put the targeted keywords at the title and beginning of the paragraph
  • the number of words in the content of at least 300 words
  • and so forth.

If you use WordPress as your website system, you can install plugins like Yoast or Rankmath to perform content audits.

Outreach Campaign

After you finish learning about site health and also a content expert, the last part of this SEO framework is the outreach campaign.

The part of this outreach campaign is to increase the popularity and publicity of your website by leveraging other parties.

There are at least 3 parties that we can collaborate with, including:

  • Expert outreach . This includes bloggers as well as personalities who have websites with lots of traffic.
  • Media outreach . This is in collaboration with an online news portal.

It’s just that what needs to be considered is that running this outreach campaign is not free. There is a fee that you have to pay to work with experts and the media. And this cost is arguably not small.

That’s how to learn SEO, which we pack in the form of a framework. This is still far from perfect, so if you have questions, suggestions or input regarding this content, please write in the comments box below.
