SEO Onpage

What is meant by  SEO Onpage  is everything related to SEO, all of which variables are directly on our own website. Which if we can consistently maintain the quality on these variables, then our website will be increasingly loved by Google.

Well, there are at least 9 variables that you must pay attention to and you must try so that these variables can be perfectly embedded on your website. I will divide this variable into 2 types.

You are currently reading the  third  of  five SEO  modules  .

First,  the basic variable . Setup or basic settings that must be on the website in general, namely:

  1. SEO friendly themes
  2. Website speed
  3. Sitemap

Second,  the advance variable . In general there are 6 variables but the discussion of their derivatives will be quite a lot. Variables whose optimization process occurs in every post or every content, namely:

  1. Image optimization
  2. Number of words
  3. Internal links
  4. Permalink
  5. Subtitles
  6. Meta

Although the variables are divided into 2 with each sub-discussion, I will not discuss the learning material this time in sequence according to the themes above. But God willing, it will cover all these variables and discussions.

Anyway, just read and enjoy it.

God willing, this discussion will be long. I’m trying to make it as comprehensive as possible but still easy to understand, I hope.

1. SEO Friendly Theme

Maybe you’ve read about this in other study materials. So, I want to reiterate this discussion.

Often people prioritize the appearance that (according to him) is cool, and it doesn’t matter whether the theme is good according to Google or vice versa. Maybe it’s more like I don’t care, but I don’t know.

To be able to know whether a theme is SEO friendly or not, then at least one must know the basic knowledge of HTML5 programming, and want to check whether the theme they want to use later is already using HTML5 technology as a whole (from top to bottom) or not?

Also someone has to be  khatam  reading the  Google Webmaster Guideline  (at least have read it briefly).

Have never read  the guidelines , guns understand programming as well. If you are one of these people, you are not wrong. All you need to do is follow people who know.

Many themes look good (including the code structure is also neat), but it turns out that the programming structure is not really good in terms of SEO.

Instead of getting dizzy in this section, I personally recommend you to use themes from these brands:

  1. StudioPress
  2. MyThemeShop
  3. GeneratePress

I’ve been around trying various themes, including talking about Themeforest, maybe thousands of dollars have already been spent just to buy a theme that I didn’t use all of them (one of the reasons is because it’s not SEO friendly).

From the results of my adventure, that’s the only theme, God willing, it’s really almost perfect according to   Google’s guidelines . Or you can also add the original twenty-twenty WordPress theme. It’s just that it looks  so so .

2. Website Speed

In the explanation of the speed of this website, I will divide the sub-chapters into quite a few. Yes, just enjoy it. There are at least 6 things that need to be considered so that your website has a wuzz speed   and is liked by Google.

Don’t Just Install Themes/Plugins

Yes, this is in line with the first variable, yes, about an SEO friendly theme. If you take my word for it by installing the theme from the developers above, God willing, you will also be safe in this section.

You never know what technology is embedded in the theme/plugin you are using, because there are quite a number of themes/plugins that use special scripts that actually burden the server, making the website slow.

PageSpeed Insight or GT Metrix

Website speed standards can be checked on   Google’s official platform , namely  PageSpeed Insight , or you can also use   another platform which is also quite popular  GT Metrix .

The two  platforms  will provide quite useful information for your next  follow-up  (if there is something that needs to be fixed regarding your website settings).

You just follow the guide there for learning. God willing, you will also get the same advice there; be careful to install the script yo lee .

WP Super Cache

If this is a mandatory plugin that I install on 90% of the websites I manage. So where does the 10% go? Yes, I wrote 90% because I myself also forgot how many websites I installed WP Super Cache on, just as far as I remember, there are quite a few, let’s just say 10%.

This plugin helps so that your website which was originally  dynamic , is processed into  static . In short a static page will be much lighter for browsers and Google to access. This plugin also helps the server performance become lighter.

Photon from Jetpack

This is also a mandatory plugin to install and there are some powerful features that you can get by installing this one plugin. I have previously reviewed  Jetpack specifically  with its various interesting features.

One of the useful features is called Photon, this feature will create a premium quality CDN specifically for media/image files for free. CDN or Content Delivery Network is generally paid and not cheap, but with Jetpack this feature is facilitated for free.

Imsanity

While this one plugin has a function to automatically resize images to a certain size according to our settings.

For example, if I set all uploaded images the width should not be more than 800px, so when I upload an image with a size of 1200px it will automatically resize to a size of 800px. However, this does not apply the other way around, if the image is only 650px or less than 800px, the image will remain at its size.

In essence, the uploaded image uses the required size reasonably (both in pixels and kb).

If the website is only 750px wide, why use images that are more than 1000px wide? In addition to wasteful size and wasteful hosting capacity, it will also make your website slow for visitors and Google.

Cloudflare

This is a  platform  that will help a lot with regards to the speed and security of your website. If it is explained in technical language, you may not necessarily understand. In essence, this platform has  very good basic advantages  , namely:

  1. IP address changed
  2. The web is getting faster
  3. The web is more secure from attacks
  4. Reduced server/hosting load

By changing the IP address,  brute force attacks  do not directly lead to your hosting. But first go to Cloudflare, and they already have good technology in countering fake quality attacks that have readable patterns.

From a technical point of view, there are actually a myriad of very useful features of Cloudflare, but these features can only be understood by those who know about servers. So I won’t discuss it because there will be a lot of “uselessness” rather than the benefits, hehe.

***

Well, those are 6 things to consider regarding website speed. If you have done the 6 things above but the  reports  in PageSpeed Insight and GT Metrix are still not satisfactory, my advice is that you don’t need to worry and be confused about what else you should do. Let’s just say   that the report is no longer useful for you.

If you’re technically savvy, you can google about  htaccesscookies  and  cache  in headers, etc.

3. What is Quality Content?

Quality content is content that contains useful and detailed information when discussing a theme in the content.

Since the Google Panda algorithm,  quality has  become a factor that must be taken into account by every website owner, because Google can read.

For who?

A quality content can please visitors, also please Google. What you write, if it is quality, from various sides such as the theme discussed, the richness of the content, the  style  used in the article (H3, H4, pictures, captions, etc.), will certainly spoil the reader who can digest the information you convey. .

Then they will  like  or  share  to social media, which means there will be a  social signal  for your content, where this  social signal  will be read by Google.

So, there’s no harm in you creating long, full content, bothering to include images and filling them with  Title  and  ALT .

4. How Does Google Read Quality Content?

The factors that make a website considered quality because it meets the following things.

Use of H2 and H3 in Articles

In creating content on some of  my authority sites  , there is a lot of content that uses more than 3 for H2 and H3 in the article, but rarely for H4 (because I think H4 is only optional).

The writing pattern is like this:

This is Example H2

This Is Example H3

Purto labore posidonium ad quo, no consul referrentur his, mel at doming numquam efficiantur. Audire ullamcorper ius ut, malis fastidii gloriatur usu eu, usu inermis facilis inimicus.

This Is Example H4

Purto labore posidonium ad quo, no consul referrentur his, mel at doming numquam efficiantur. Audire ullamcorper ius ut, malis fastidii gloriatur usu eu, usu inermis facilis inimicus.

This is a sample for H2

Purto labore posidonium ad quo, no consul referrentur his, mel at doming numquam efficiantur. Audire ullamcorper ius ut, malis fastidii gloriatur usu eu, usu inermis facilis inimicus.

And This Example H3

Ex qualisque iracundia eos, ei mei paulo ponderum. Pri omnes denique consequat eu. Mea sint feugait posidonium no, aliquam complectitur eos at, facilisi consetetur pro in.

Again Example H3

From the example above, there is a pattern that the presence of H4 must be between H3. H3 is mandatory, and the presence of H4 is optional.

There are keywords in the heading

What is meant by headings are h2, h3, h4, and so on. So, it’s not just using headings in the content, but it must be designed in a way so that there are keywords embedded in the headings.

Or at least 1 word which is the  object  of the keyword we are targeting. For example, the keyword is  how to make chili sauce . You know the object is  sambal , so the word sambal is what you will repeat in several headings (not all, only some).

Keywords in Pictures

Use at least 3 images, the more the better, there seems to be no limit on the number of images that can be inserted in the article, just adjust to your needs.

Of course, enter  Title  and  ALT  for optimization purposes. Use  keywords  related to the image or theme of the article’s discussion.

Example of entering Title and ALT in WordPress.
Example of entering Title and ALT in WordPress.

Also make sure that each image has   a different Title  and  ALT .

If you’re still confused about this, it’s a good idea to read the special material on  image optimization  that I’ve reviewed for quite a while.

Number of words used in the article

Pay attention to the dominant sites that appear in the  SERP , always discuss the material comprehensively through their articles.

The average site has 1,000 words (words) or more. So, let’s take this as an indicator, because Google has never announced things like this. Google only advises website owners to create quality content.

* * *

Just starting to write is already a challenge. Moreover, it is required to write quality content which is not  simple .

Thinking of making a plot, designing the laying of pictures, etc. Time consuming indeed, but the results are very good. It doesn’t hurt you to read  Hire Content Writer Services, Need or Not?

5. Other Elements

In closing, these things are also important for you to pay attention to when optimizing Onpage SEO, which although I put them at the end, does not show that the priority of these things is far below. They are the same as the above elements that must be given a balanced portion.

Meta Title and Meta Description

For a beginner, this might be a little confusing. All you need to do is install a plugin called  Yoast  and learn how it works. Googling laaaahhh..

After this plugin is installed, in every Add New Post there will be a   special metabox at the bottom of the Editor to set the  meta title  and  meta description .

When you maximize these 2 elements (by filling in keywords or their variations), of course this will be much better than content that has no  meta  at all.

Density More Than 1%

For those who don’t know, density is the repetition of  terms  or keywords in the content. I am among those who believe that this density factor makes a very good contribution to the reputation of the page in the eyes of Google.

There are some people who don’t care about this,  it’s fine . Differences of opinion are normal. But what is certain is that the majority of content that I produce and are in good positions on Google, they use this density theory.

When it comes to keyword variations like density, LSI, long tail, etc. What I pay attention to is the object, so it doesn’t have to be the same plex density or repeated terms.

Do you understand? Hehe.

Friendly Permalinks

Permalink is the URL or slug address of the content on your website. This is the URL   and what I bolded is the slug. So that slug must be  friendly .http://vatih.com/kenalan/

Permalinks should not be long. The important thing in the slug is that there is an object from the keyword. Can also use all keywords as slug.

For example, the keyword is  how to manage family finances , I can make the permalink into 2 versions like this:

  1. vatih.com/ how-to-manage-finance-family
  2. vatih.com/ family-finance

In the first version I used all keywords. In the second version I only use the object of the keyword. Both are fine, okay.

WikiPedia Onpage Optimization Case Study

I’m sure you almost never ask yourself why Wikipedia dominates the first page so much. You don’t have time to question that because you think it’s natural that Wikipedia is a huge site that is very rich in content.

There is some truth to that but the formula remains the same, nothing is instant, everything requires a process and Google still uses the algorithm values.

The answer to why Wikipedia can be so dominant is onpage. Wikipedia packs the onpage very nicely and neatly. Good because the relevance is very high.

All of Google’s animals (Pandas, Penguins, Hummingbirds, etc.) can kill websites that are said to use a good SEO strategy, but in fact Wikipedia has survived to this day no matter how many times Google tries to turn it upside down.

This means that Wikipedia is playing very clean. It’s not just about backlinks. There is something more serious that you should pay attention to than just focusing on link building.

Let’s look at how Wikipedia’s onpage strategy is.

1. Articles Made Very Scientific, Very Strong Research

This is the secret that made Wikipedia the great it is today. This is also what makes people flock to make backlinks voluntarily because they consider Wikipedia as a proof. What’s on Wikipedia is undeniable data, sort of.

Have you ever found quality content on Wikipedia? I personally almost never. What I get from Wikipedia is very meaningful and satisfying.

Having content with a large number of words is still not enough. What must be built is the trust of the reader. How can your blog be trusted by readers and used as their reference.

2. Very Many Words

As far as I can remember, the number of words in every piece of content on Wikipedia is enormous. At a glance, there are 1,000 words. Often times over 2,000 words.

This is also a very clear answer. That the number of words can affect the position of content ranking on Google. Plus the data displayed must be responsible, as I mentioned above.

Not infrequently the content there uses more than 10 thousand words. This is so wow!

According to  research from SerpIQ , the number of words can affect the position of content on Google pages. The average content on the first page of Google has 2,000 words in its content.

word count affects ranking

Well, clear right?

I myself have been obsessed with word count since the beginning of 2016  . I did some research and the results are quite interesting, 70% of content created with a word count above 2,000 can go to the first page of Google.

But, as I explained above, it must be  trusted  and  attractive . Relying on word count alone is not enough.

I manage the One Hour website, on this website there are quite a lot of keywords that enter page one with a medium to high level of competition, please type “business opportunity” on Google, see the results. This keyword is searched for more than 50k  searches  every month.

One of the reasons why the keyword can be in that position is to use 10k more words in the content. Although I admit, the content is not perfect in quality and cannot be said to be interesting (in my opinion), but this can be improved, and I have planned the steps.

3. Good Internal Links, Organized, Neat, and Relevant

Yep, Wikipedia has millions of content. Which every content is always connected with other relevant content. This is also the reason why Wikipedia is a trusted site  . Too complete.

There is one interesting thing that I have observed regarding internal links on Wikipedia which I have recently tried to implement in several blogs that I manage.

The interesting thing is that the anchor text and the permalink are  often the same . Try going to  this Wikipedia page  and hover over each link, see how the permalinks are used.

Interesting right? This is something people rarely do and realize. I’m trying to fix some old content regarding this.

For example, the keyword that I want to conquer is  how to teach children to pray , so I will make the title  14 Fun Ways to Teach Children to Pray Diligently , and the permalink is like this  satujam.com/cara-mengajarkan-anak-sholat.

Then when I create a new article, and it is relevant to the prayer theme, I will create an internal link with anchor text on  how to teach children to pray  and direct them to that content.

Approximately so.

I’m trying to fix the anchor text on the internal link, if you’re interested in fixing it, please 😀

Here are some of the benefits of having internal links on the website:

  1. Increase link-flow or link-juice on your website, so that the intended content is also raised in  Google rank .
  2. The anchor text that you create will help Google understand more accurately that the theme of the content (the intended target) is really as described through the anchor text.
  3. Internal links help Google robots to browse other parts of your website.
  4. From the human side, of course this will improve the user experience. Visitors find it easier to search for related content that they find interesting to follow. Lower  bounce-rate , and increase  pageviews .

4. Putting Keywords at the Beginning

Admittedly, this strategy still applies, and Wikipedia uses it. At the beginning here means at the beginning of the title and the beginning of the paragraph (description). Here’s the proof:

keyword-bolded-2-600x173
First Sample
keyword-bolded-3-600x183
Second Sample
keyword-bolded-600x158
Third Sample

I don’t know, there’s been a lot of debate about this. Some say that placing keywords at the beginning is not important, it has no effect. But in fact Wikipedia uses this, it can’t hurt to emulate.

I also use it, still in the same content example, “business opportunity”.

Not only that, another interesting thing is that Wikipedia uses  bold  in their keywords, please check for yourself. Things that according to some circles also have no effect on search engines, again Wikipedia uses it. And I imitated him for the same example, “business opportunity”.

5. Prepare ALT and   Proper file-name in Each Image

It’s a bit time consuming but has a significant impact. That’s what happened on Wikipedia. Please see that almost all images attached to Wikipedia have  ALT  and  file-names  that are descriptive and contain keywords (density).

For the ALT it is not very complete, there are some blanks, but for file-name it is often well filled and almost perfect. Please check  this page .

6. Write Naturally, As It Is

Like when I created this content, this sentence has reached 2,400 words per sentence, and in fact you’re still reading this lesson, aren’t you? Because I write this content naturally so that it is still comfortable to enjoy.

You must often come across content that is very unpleasant to read. The wording is irregular, and the information conveyed is not clear (inconclusive), what happens next is you just walk away without remembering what site you just visited.

This goes back to the original problem where you have to improve the quality of your writing by increasing the intensity of writing practice and observing how other people write.

Wikipedia does this too. The content is acceptable, enjoyable, and not boring.

Conclusion

Alhamdulillah what I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. We’ve come to a conclusion, and that means I can start playing Dota soon, hehe.

Well never mind, the point is if you’re still confused, try reading again the discussion of this material from above. And if you’ve read it many times and you’re still confused, you can use the comments column below to  ask me anything  about Onpage SEO.

Good luck.
